Group Picture at Peralta Trailhead
The long hike, approximately 5.2 miles, led by John R., is the same hike on the Peralta Trail to the saddle as the medium group, however, it becomes a loop by continuing on the ridgeline to the CaveTrail past Geronimo's Cave and down the Bluff Springs Trail. Geronimo's Cave is an interesting feature and there are beautiful views from here and all along the ridgeline, however, this is rated as difficult. The difficult part is the Cave Trail descent requiring scrambling and one particular area where the steep face on slip rock can be quite tricky and extra care must be taken.
(GPS: Peralta Trail) Use back roads to Florence Junction. Go west on Hwy 60 about 8 miles to milepost 204. Turn right at the traffic light and a sign, Peralta Trail. Proceed through the residential area and past the school to the gravel road. Continue about 7 miles to the Trailhead. It is 62 miles and took approximately an hour and ten minutes.
Upcoming Hikes:
February 11, 2022 Romero Pools. (Both Medium and Long)
February 18, 2022 Hackberry Spring Loop. (To be determined)
Remember:
If for some reason a hike must be canceled, you will receive an email by 6 a.m. Friday morning We are also going to start dropping emails for those people who haven't signed a waiver and hiked December or January. This does not include people that I know are still coming to Palm Creek!
