February 4, 2022, Peralta Trail ( Medium Hike) and Cave Trail (Long Hike) - Superstition Mountains.

Long Hike

The long hike, approximately 5.2 miles, led by John R., is the same hike on the Peralta Trail to the saddle as the medium group, however, it becomes a loop by continuing on the ridgeline to the CaveTrail past Geronimo's Cave and down the Bluff Springs Trail. Geronimo's Cave is an interesting feature and there are beautiful views from here and all along the ridgeline, however, this is rated as difficult. The difficult part is the Cave Trail descent requiring scrambling and one particular area where the steep face on slip rock can be quite tricky and extra care must be taken.

Medium Hike

The Peralta Trail to Fremont Saddle, led by Jerry, is probably the most popular hike in the Superstition Mountains. It is a moderate hike of approximately 4.6 miles, in and out, and takes about 3 hours round trip. The trail gradually climbs 1366 feet and is a good cardio workout. Along the way, there are spectacular views of the canyon and numerous hoodoos on the left side of the canyon that stand like statues in many shapes and forms. The right side is a steep cliff rising to a high ridge. There are interesting rock formations and balancing rocks along this face and you can see Geronimo's Cave high above the trail. Once reaching Fremont Saddle, there is an awesome view of Weaver's Needle. (Restrooms are available at the trailhead)
