March 25, 2022 Hiking Club Year End Picnic at Palm Creek Sports Pavilion after the hike to Picacho Peak


The food at the picnic was delicious
Barros Pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Potato Salad made by Cathy, Cole Slaw, Beans made by Linda, Chocolate Cake and Lemon Cake made by Patty. 

Calico Baked Beans
½ lb. ground beef
½ lb. bacon (cut up)
1 medium onion (diced) 

1 28 oz can Baked Beans (I used Bush Homestyle)
1 15.5oz can Red Kidney Beans (drained)
1 15 oz can of Butter Beans (drained) 

1 cup ketchup
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp Molasses
1 tsp dry mustard
¼ cup white vinegar
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper

Brown the first 3 ingredients and drain fat if any. Add the rest of the ingredients and bake at 350° for 40 minutes

There was a great turnout of hikers and family members at the Sports Complex

Jerry presented certificates who hiked 75 miles + 

Nellie and Mary Anne presented gifts to the hiking leaders. 






And a special appreciation for Jerry's Leadership of the Club. 

Jerry is stepping down this year after leading the hiking club and keeping it going during the difficult time of the Covid 19 pandemic.

March 25, 2022 Picacho State Park - Medium Hike - Sunset Vista Trail. Long Hike - Hunter Trail to Saddle. Picnic following

Hike, Picacho State Park - We left the parking lot early at 7:30.

Medium Group Goal: Sunset Vista Trail to the cable connecting to the Hunter Trail if time permits! Approximately 3 miles. (Easy Hike)

Long Group Goal: Hunter Trail to the saddle and to cables connecting to the Sunset Vista Trail if time permits. Approximately 3.5 miles. (Moderate Hike)

Directions: (GPS: Picacho State Park)  I-10 East 29 miles to the Picacho exit. Two right turns and follow directions to the Picacho State Park, pay the entrance fee at the gate and follow signs for either the Hunter or Sunsetset Vista Trails. Restrooms are available. 

Hiking Club Picnic

Palm Creek Sports Pavilion 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

It's a time to eat, drink, visit and share memories of our hiking season.  Certificates will be given for the hikers who have hiked with the club this season for 50 or more miles.
